Growing Towards Equitable Urban and Community Forestry Practices - Dr. Christine Carmichael
ISA CEUs:  1
Urban forests in the U.S. have been shaped over time by racist policies like "redlining," which encouraged disinvestment from majority Black neighborhoods in the 1930s. These areas are now substantially hotter and have fewer trees than those ranked "desirable." However, residents there sometimes turn down the offer of trees now. This presentation will describe why residents in Detroit, Michigan submitted "no-tree requests" when offered free street trees and share lessons for how to engage residents equitably in the process of planting and caring for trees where they live.

Deep Dive into MI Urban Forest Management Plans/Urban Canopy Assessments - Dr. Asia Dowtin ISA CEUs: 1
With significant tree loss in urban canopies, the need for establishing resilient urban forests is significant - and biodiversity plays a key role. A newly designed tool, the Tree Diversity Reporting Index (TDRI), introduces a standard by which urban forest diversity can be reported. This overview by Dr. Dowtin shows how TDRI values are both calculated and useful in developing goals for urban forest resilience. Dowtin will also provide guidance on how the TDRI can be utilized in development of urban forest management plans.
Artificial Intelligence in Urban Forestry - Lee Mueller ISA CEUs:  1
Our world and urban forestry are rapidly changing with the increasing adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). This presentation will provide a brief overview and demonstrate applications for some of the AI tools that are currently available to urban foresters (e.g. ChatGPT, object detection) including how these technologies have been applied in the past and future possibilities for urban tree monitoring and management.
ANSI A300 Consolidation - Geoff Kempter
ISA CEUs: 1
The ten parts of the ANSI A300 standards were developed and revised individually until 2023.  Last year all ten parts were consolidated into one document which will be revised every five years, similar to ANSI Z133 Safety. Having all ten parts in one document will make it easier for arborists to stay current on all aspects of tree care. This presentation describes A300 Standards, how to use them, and the advantages of consolidation.

Tree Tolerance to Moisture Stress - Dr. Richard Hauer
ISA CEUs:  1, MDARD: 1
Trees have to tolerate a variety of ways to survive climatic extremes. Too much water can be one factor trees must cope with or perish. Loss of water is one stress factor that trees need to tolerate. During the growing season plants rarely have a vacation with ample water day in and day out. Learn the physiological and morphological tricks trees have up their leaves to survive what moisture stresses they face.
Tree Selection Assisted Migration - Tiffany Giacobazzi   ISA CEUs:  1
Assisted species migration is moving seed sources or populations to a location outside the historical species range, beyond locations accessible by natural dispersal. This presentation will discuss ongoing research and management considerations as Ann Arbor looks to the future of its tree planting.
Oak Wilt in Ann Arbor - Tiffany Giacobazzi
ISA CEUs:  1
Ann Arbor worked through their first known oak wilt outbreak. This presentation will discuss the project from beginning to end and discuss outcomes and lessons learned from the perspective of a municipality dealing with an oak wilt outbreak on public lands.

ISA CEUs: 1
Ann Arbor worked through their first known oak wilt outbreak. This presentation will discuss the project from beginning to end and discuss outcomes and lessons learned from the perspective of a municipality dealing with an oak wilt outbreak on public lands.

Pests of Concern for Arborists - Amber Neils & Susie Iott   ISA CEUs: 1, MDARD: 1
The key to battling invasive species is early detection and rapid response. Arborists are uniquely situated at the frontlines to help detect pests throughout Michigan so invasive species agencies, including MDARD, can respond rapidly. Stop by to learn about the identification of four key pests: Box Tree Moth, Mountain Pine Beetle, Hemlock Woolly Adelgid and Balsam Woolly adelgid.

Tree Tolerance to Moisture Stress: Tree Tricks Up Their Leaves - Dr. Richard Hauer    ISA CEU: 1, MDARD: 1
The Basics of Building a PHC Program -
Emma Conrad   ISA CEU: 1
This talk will present on some of the basic topics for starting a Plant Health Care program and what type of actions a company may need to take to grow PHC ideas into reality. Some of the basic topics will include legal requirements, equipment needs, PHC services and tracking, knowledge base and more. Also present on some challenges faced from a small business perspective and how we work through those challenges.
Tree Selection Assisted Migration - Tiffany Giacobazzi ISA CEU: 1
Assisted species migration is moving seed sources or populations to a location outside the historical species range, beyond locations accessible by natural dispersal. This presentation will discuss ongoing research and management considerations as Ann Arbor looks to the future of its tree planting.
A Preventative and Curative Approach to Treating Iron Chlorosis for Landscape Trees  ISA CEUs: 1, MDARD: 1
Chlorosis is a serious condition where a tree’s ability to manufacture chlorophyll has been compromised. This can become a long-term problem for trees and shrubs because chlorophyll is the molecule that a tree utilizes to make energy for itself, trees with chlorosis are making less energy than they normally would. This condition results in a weaker, less durable tree that will rarely make it to maturity.

A brief overview of risk management strategies and safety culture in tree care. Serious Injury and Fatality Potential(SIFp) is a measure of the likelihood of severity of outcome of an incident. These types of exposures are essential for the tree care professionals to recognize and learn how to manage. Building resiliency through this recognition and management of the SIFps will not only help your place of work prepare for but also recover from if an incident occurs.
Tree Risk Assessment - The Human Element- Steven Lane ISA CEU: 1
Tree Risk Assessment is a complex process that involves many factors, and can be accomplished in many ways, from a simple pre-climb inspection to using advanced tools like sonic tomography. The TRAQ protocol provides a common language to assess things like the tree, its conditions of concern, the site, and the targets. But what about the intangibles? How do we deal with things like fear, policy, perception, and manage the human element in all of this? Join Steve as we take a look into some of the human elements of risk assessment in the urban environment.

KEYNOTE: If You Could Build a Diverse Urban Forest Utopia, What Would it Be? - Dr. Richard Hauer
ISA CEUs: 1
The journey anyone of us would walk, maybe sprint, to create an urban forest utopia would likely vary. The end result and path we took might also differ. But maybe during the journey, the mental picture of the many ways trees benefit society, you, and I might have some rooted agreement. Planning your journey and growing a diverse tree portfolio may likely yield the highest return on the investment. This seems very sensible and as we use our eight senses (yes eight not five) in our treetopia. We will also learn our utopia place and discover how designing for our first, second, and third space is rather important.

Using 3D Imagery and Mapping in Urban Tree Work - John Widman  ISA CEUs: 1
Uncertainty is a fact of working with trees. We generally accept that plans are made on the ground and changed in the air. But what if we could see what a tree looks like from an aerial perspective before climbing? What if we could easily represent dimensions and shapes of all parts of the tree from multiple perspectives? This talk will focus on how 3d models of trees can give us these capabilities and increase situational awareness at all stages of our work.
