2026 Oak Wilt Qualification Course

The ISA Michigan Oak Wilt Qualification program is designed for certified arborists and foresters, municipal staff, and other tree care professionals involved in oak wilt identification, prevention, and management.


The course provides instruction on oak wilt biology, disease transmission, field identification, diagnostic considerations, risk periods, prevention practices, treatment options, and management planning.


The Oak Wilt Qualification course involves; required pre-reading materials, classroom presentations, and hands-on field work supported by reference documents, case studies and management scenarios.


Participants will review current best practices and apply course content to real-world oak wilt management situations. The program supports consistent, informed oak wilt management practices across Michigan.


By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify common signs and symptoms associated with oak wilt
  • Explain primary methods of oak wilt transmission
  • Recognize appropriate prevention and treatment practices
  • Develop oak wilt management plans
  • Communicate oak wilt risks and management recommendations clearly and accurately

Apply to become an Oak Wilt Qualified specialist!   This 2-day course with test is designed for those green industry professionals that want to learn more about oak wilt prevention, management, and best practices over all land types and scales. Classroom and hands-on training are abundant in this workshop. 
Prerequisites for the Course:  You must hold an ISA Certified Arborist or Certified Forester credential, or a 4 year degree in a related field. Related fields include: Biology, Ecology, Forestry, Horticulture

Proof of credential or 4 year degree must be emailed to ISA Michigan before your application can be accepted.

Course attendees are required to complete pre-reading assignments in preparation for course work.
Please note:  Your application will be reviewed for consideration. If you meet the prerequisites you will receive communication from ISA Michigan that you are confirmed for the workshop.
