WHAT... Tree risk assessment is a systematic process that reviews risk factors and ranks them into risk categories. Risk assessment examines the whole tree, or a part of it. It is only undertaken when there is a target that might be damaged if the tree or tree part were to fail. 'Targets' are people and/or property within striking distance of the tree or its component parts. The assessment process provides a means to evaluate:
-
Probability of failure-the whole tree, or component parts
-
The size of the defective part
-
The target area (frequency and duration of use, and any other risk factors that require consideration)
WHY... Assessment of tree risk is a specialized area of expertise not covered in other areas of arboriculture or urban forestry training and accreditation. This course will:
-
Provide tree risk assessment training for urban and urban/rural interface areas using the most current theory, practice and technical concepts employed in arboriculture.
-
Set the standard at a high level of competence to ensure those accredited are skilled, knowledgeable, and fully aware of their professional responsibilities.
-
Promote safety and sound arboriculture.
WHO... This course will be most useful to arborists (utility, municipal and consulting), tree care workers, urban foresters, golf course workers, parks maintenance staff, road engineers, landscape architects and professional foresters.
